1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewellery or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. - 1 Peter 3:3,4

Choose to be Happy

This morning as I sat watching the rain patter down, I thought, why am I unhappy? Why do I feel so down in the dumps? I looked back on the week, and I thought, there is no reason for me to feel like this.

Well, no real reasons.

Heaps of little things had dragged me down. Kicking my toes. A careless comment spoken by a friend. Dropping things. Just little stuff that get me annoyed. Stuff that drives me crazy.

And, over the last few days, all that little stuff had slowly dragged me down in the dumps. I let little things like that take away my happiness?

I wasnt going to settle for that. I am not going to let that drag me down. No ones gonna steal my happiness. So I smiled, and said:

"I choose to be happy."

And I decided- not matter what happens today I am gonna smile, and not let the devil steal my joy. Because no matter what happens, God loves me, and He is with me. Nothing can change that.

And I only need to walk out in my garden to see how many flowers God has given me today. :) Who needs a boyfriend?

  1. You are SO right! I used to wait for someone to make me happy, but happiness IS a choice! I would often wallow in self-pity instead of focusing on Christ's love. He is truly "Fairer than the sons of men" And His love is better than life! Why is it so hard to abide in His love? Why is it so hard to remember the overflow of joy His sweet presence brings? And it is hard to remember the deep void "Chasing after the wind" leaves you with. Yes, true happiness is realizing "what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe."
What a beautiful word at the end, "God is faithful." How can I feel down with such a God!
Thank you for the reminder! And sorry for my ramblings :)

  2. Meggie, this just made me think about a song we both know:

You stay the same through the ages
    You're love never changes
There may be pain in the night
But Joy comes in the morning

What a great little reminder and encouragement to start my day :) Today I choose to be happy because I know that no matter what the devil tries to throw my way, I have a God who conquers by my side, and He loves me, an unworthy sinner. That is definitely enough reason for me to be happy for the rest of my life.

Thank you Jesus and thank you Meggie ;D xx

  3. I have found that the times when I am most tempted to be unhappy is when I get my eyes off Christ. Christ is ALL that I need. He is sufficient. I need absolutely NOTHING else - not things, not people, and not health. It is when I get my eyes off that that I struggle with happiness.
