1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewellery or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. - 1 Peter 3:3,4

Open and Vulnerable

Pinned Image

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. - James 5:16 NIV

Those thoughts that you dont talk about to anyone else, the things you do behind closed doors (because no one can see you), the stuff you hide from others, I have started to realize.

That is the sort of stuff God meant us to share. He actually wants us to tell others about the dirt that we hide under our bed, and in the darkest corners of our cupboards.

I coulnt understand that at first. Why? Why would God want to disgrace me in front of friends? Why would He ask me to do open myself up? What if they laughed at me? What if they realized how sinful I was, and they turned their backs on me?

When we speak stuff out, we get stuff out of our system. The thoughts in our heads crystalize and become actual spoken words. And prayer? Prayer is the strength by with we live, and God says ( in the above verse) that if we not only pray for our own problems but also let other people know and have them pray for us, that we will be healed.

We will be healed.

Open and vulnerable.

Join me, as I purposefully find someone I can trust, and open my heart to them, and confess the stuff I would rather hide.

  1. I struggle so hard with this! I hate opening up to people, yet I know I should! I feel like I couldn't possibly share my wicked thoughts, but I know there is deliverance in prayer. I need so much help here! Often I think I can't be a Christian, yet the grace of God continues to amaze me!

  2. I am new to your blog, and I am so excited I found it!! I love your posts. I have been wanting to understand this verse for quite a while but I had somehow failed to register the first part of it. I had even been thinking about it today and an hour later you share the answer. God is ever faithful to answer my questions. Thank you so much for sharing! It is deffinately difficult opening yourself and sharing what is hidden inside. Thank you for the insight and challenge. I know in my own life it is a constant struggle trusting what seems to be my utter failures to others. But through Crist we can over come not just our struggles but also our fears of sharing them.

  5. I am new to your blog as well, but I'm so glad I'm here! In our world today, it's so easy to end up surrounded by people who are technically our friends, but they only seem to be there for the good times and when the bad time come or the ugly things rise to the surface, unknown to our friends, we hide. I guess I haven't looked it from this way - that it's not up to our friends to pull it out of us, we should be open to share the bad things too with the people we trust - it's both a humbling and stregthening experience, I've learned. :)
